Whether it’s breakfast or brunch, there’s been a huge surge in people eating the first meal of the day outside the home over recent years. I always think it feels like a huge treat to go out for breakfast or brunch. It’s also a much cheaper way to dine out.
Here are five of my favourite places to have brunch in and around Chesterfield.
Bottle & Thyme, Knifesmithgate, Chesterfield
Bottle & Thyme is THE place to go for brunch in Chesterfield. Their eggs Benedict is my all time favourite (just be aware that what’s described on their menu is technically eggs florentine, with spinach, so remember to specify you want bacon too and remove the spinach if that’s not to your taste - personally I love it but definitely want the bacon too. I would also recommend the smashed avocado and French toast. In fact, it’s all good. You won’t be disappointed! The coffee is also exceptional, as is the decor and ambiance. Booking is highly recommended particularly at weekends although they do take walk ins if they have space.
Koo, Chatsworth Road, Chesterfield
Situated at the top end of Chatsworth Road, the atmosphere at Koo is very much that of a neighbourhood café. It’s really friendly, even to dogs. I love sitting outside and watching the world go by. They have patio heaters and cosy blankets, it's just lovely.
I have worked my way through most of their breakfast menu over the years and with all honesty can say without reservation that it's all delicious. Although I prefer to order the dishes without hollandaise sauce. Exceptionally good coffee again. Booking is currently essential.
Qoozies, Steeplegate, Chesterfield
Qoozies prides itself on offering healthier fast food. There are loads of lighter options for breakfast, freshly made, vitamin filled juices and smoothies etc... but I’m afraid I’m usually drawn to the more gluttonous options. My favourites are the biscoff and strawberry pancakes and the cruffin: a muffin-croissant hybrid. Delightful!
Qoozies are also on the City Grab food delivery app so you can enjoy one of their delicious breakfasts from the comfort of your own home.
Maison Mes Amis, Chatsworth Road, Chesterfield
This popular French themed restaurant on Chatsworth Road serves up all the usual breakfast and brunch dishes in addition to a continental breakfast and their famous croque monsieurs.
It’s also the place to go in Chesterfield for a bottomless brunch. Sharing boards of cheese, pâté and baguette and two hours of free flowing bubbles for £25pp. Restrictions apply and booking is essential.
Devonshire Arms in Middle Handley
This delightful gastro pub is less than a fifteen minute drive from Chesterfield. I visited recently and had the most wonderful eggs Benedict. The rest of the menu looked equally delicious, and I’ve already got my eye on the pancakes for my next visit. Booking currently essential.
