This month’s local hero is a gentleman who started his fundraising journey many years ago. One of his very first fundraisers was a ride from Lands End to John o’ Groats, seven times in seven days on his trusty motorbike, and it seems this challenge was just the start of his fundraising adventure. This month Dave Cartawick it’s your turn!
Dave is a local gent who has a passion for Chesterfield Football Club (don’t we all), he does more than his bit to support local charity in Chesterfield and does it well. Dave and his team at Unit 1 Martial Arts in S41 have raised approximately £90,000 for local charities. There fundraisers include walking from London to Brighton, the bi-annual Kickapolooza and cycling coast to coast in a day. It makes me tired just thinking about them!
“We all know someone who has been in Ashgate Hospice and it’s an amazing local charity. These endurance events are our way of helping to do our bit for the community, to help those who are nearing the end of their lives have the treatment and care they deserve” Says Dave
In May this year Dave, Hannah Kendall, Steve McPhail, Kate Saunders and Amanda Pritchard set off on a challenge called Spire2tower, this is a gruelling 102 miles on foot in only 3 days. That’s a whopping 35 miles a day! Now road walking 35 miles a day would have been hard, but not hard enough for this group of community leaders! The team decided they would go through the Peak District and West Pennine Moors over rough terrain to push them that little bit more. This recent challenge has raised an amazing £4,000 with sponsors still coming in daily. With comments like the ones below I can see why they have massively overachieved their target of £3,000.
‘Well done everyone, so epic’ – Adrienne
‘Fantastic effort and achievement! Congratulations Dave and the team, absolutely brilliant, and for a wonderful cause’ – Lynsey
‘Go, Go, Dave Cartawick and the team. Another monster fundraising challenge. Well done everyone and very best of luck’ – Shaun
Not only does Dave support our community by fundraising, but he also helps others in his day job as Head Coach at Unit 1 Martial Arts School. His job is so much more than coaching, he acts as a support system for lots of his members and I’m sure that all who know him will agree he is a key influencer to our future socially conscious, young leaders.
Dave is that ace he recently won an award at The Active Derbyshire Sports Awards 2019. There were eight Awards on offer and Dave and his team at Unit 1 were Nominated for four with a special mention in a 5th category. Of course, he came away with the winner’s trophy for Derbyshire Community Coach 2019, well done Dave!
All that’s left for me to say is… Dave, thank you for your continued contribution to our community! Your efforts make the world a better place to live. We need more Dave Cartawick’s, be like Dave!
