Friends of Tapton House ask...

Updated: May 20, 2021

'CAN YOU HELP?'

Tapton House (below) is a grade 2 listed building standing in the beautiful grounds of Tapton Park. It was gifted to the borough by the Markham family for the benefit of the residents of Chesterfield but has stood empty for some months now.

Friends of Tapton House are appealing to anyone with a soft spot for Tapton (old Taptonian or not) to join us in our attempt to lease the house from the council and breathe new life into it. Ideas for creating a community hub include galleries, workshops for local artists and craftspeople, exhibitions to display and sell their work, opportunities for creative and supportive education and lecture rooms in which to run courses.

It would be a great place for therapists, counsellors, conferences, adult education, community/parent and child groups, a tea room and displays relating to George Stephenson, local history and the history of the house and grammar school.

For more information and to volunteer (please!) email friendsoftaptonhouse@gmail.com or go to our website friendsoftaptonhouse.wordpress.com.

We look forward to hearing from anyone who is interested in joining us.
